Consult and Print out the Map (en format PDF) On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Ville de Québec, Folie/Culture is proposing “Manhole cover art”, an unusual form of artistic appropriation of the urban fabric which creates awareness of the sometimes difficult issues that mark our environment. This practice consists in entrusting artists with the creation of designs for working manhole covers. These plates, more poetically called eyes of the street, are standard in terms of size, but remarkable in what they look like. Folie/Culture has invited artists from the Ville de Québec to design street bas-reliefs. A reflection of the hidden and indescribable aspect of the city, the theme of the look imposed itself for both its pertinence and its nod at poetry. Unfortunately, Martin Bureau’s work, Hommage à Sa Gracieuse Majesté, is not exposed, having been censured by the Ville de Québec and the Fonderie Bibby-Ste-Croix. |
